This document describes the app version that includes it. Older TestFlight builds may have different controls; update to a build containing this policy before using optional photos or location.

At a glance

The Girl Bug Hunters is a nature adventure designed for children and families. Our approach is to keep your child's play private:

Optional services have their own data flows. The optional location lookup contacts Apple only after the in-app explanation and device-owner approval. Apple services such as backups and TestFlight, websites you open, and emails you send also involve information leaving the device. These are explained below.

1. Information kept on your device

The app saves discoveries, visited game areas, adventure progress, badges, the explorer's position in the fictional game world, outing choices, and preferences. Preferences include your selected wildlife region, season, reading level, narration voice, and whether photo access is enabled. A custom explorer's trail name and appearance are also saved locally. We recommend a made-up trail name rather than a child's real name.

The game-world position is not your physical location. Reading level is a setting you choose; the app does not ask for a child's date of birth.

This information lets you continue your adventure. The app has no server account or app-managed cloud sync, and Veliqon cannot look up or recover your saved game. Apple's device backup and restore services may copy this local data, as explained in section 5.

2. Photos and Apple's on-device AI

Photo discoveries are optional and off by default. A parent can enable them in the app's settings or photo screen using Apple's device authentication. After that, the camera requires its separate system permission, or you can choose individual images through Apple's photo picker. The picker gives the app access to the images you choose, rather than your entire photo library.

The app makes a resized working image for analysis without the original photo's attached metadata. It holds the working image and suggestion temporarily in memory. Closing the photo screen or turning photo access off clears them from the app's active photo session. The app does not save captured photos to your photo library or create a permanent photo collection. Choosing an existing image does not remove the original from your library.

On supported devices, the app uses the on-device Apple Intelligence model through Apple's Foundation Models framework. When that capability is unavailable, it can use Apple's on-device Vision image recognition. Neither analysis path uploads the photo to Veliqon, Apple servers, or another AI provider. The app does not use Private Cloud Compute or an external AI service for this feature.

Availability depends on the device, operating system, installed models, and Apple Intelligence settings. Apple may download model resources through its own services. This is separate from uploading a photo for analysis. The illustrated field guide remains available without Apple Intelligence.

Suggestions can be wrong. They describe a possible broad group, such as bird or insect, rather than confirming a species or whether an animal is safe to approach. Examples in the field guide are not confirmed matches to your photo.

Apple describes the on-device model in its Foundation Models documentation.

3. Parent controls and device permissions

Apple handles Face ID, Touch ID, and device-passcode verification. The app receives the authentication result; it does not receive your biometric information or passcode. This verifies a device credential, not a person's age or relationship to a child. Use a credential your child cannot use.

Location lookup and external links require separate approval each time; they do not enable photos. Photo approval stays enabled until you turn it off; it is not requested before every picture. You can turn it off in the app, and manage camera and location permissions in your device's Settings. Turning photos off does not remove saved adventure progress.

4. Optional location lookup — information sent to Apple

You can choose a wildlife region manually without granting location access. If a parent chooses Continue with location after reading the Apple-sharing notice and completing device-owner authentication, the app asks iOS for a one-time location and sends that location to Apple's geocoding service to determine a country and state or region. This is a network request to Apple, not an entirely on-device lookup.

The app requests a coarse location, but the location supplied by iOS may be more precise depending on your permissions and device. You can turn Precise Location off in system settings. The app does not save coordinates, send them to Veliqon, or continuously track your movements. It saves the wildlife collection you confirm, so you do not need to repeat the lookup to keep playing.

Apple processes this request under its own privacy terms. See Apple's Privacy Policy and its description of the network-based geocoding service.

5. Apple services and external websites

Your Apple settings and choices can involve processing outside the game:

These services mean we cannot promise that your entire device, Apple account, or browser never shares information.

6. TestFlight beta testing

TestFlight is an exception to “no data shared with us.” Apple automatically collects beta-app crash logs and usage information and shares them with Veliqon as the app developer. This can include device and operating-system information, app sessions, installations, and tester identity information depending on how you were invited. Apple says this collection cannot be opted out of while using TestFlight.

Feedback you submit, including comments or screenshots, is also shared with Apple and Veliqon. Please have an adult submit feedback and leave out children's names, faces, locations, and other unnecessary personal information.

We use beta reports to investigate problems and improve the app, not for advertising or profiling children. We do not sell or pass beta reports to third parties. We keep any copies we retain only as long as needed to investigate the reported problem or meet a legal obligation. Apple's separate retention rules apply to its copies. Contact us with requests about information we hold; Apple also provides controls for its own data.

Read TestFlight & Privacy before joining the beta.

7. Contacting support

If an adult emails support@veliqon.com, we receive the sender's email address and whatever information the message includes. Email delivery and storage also involve email service providers. Please do not send children's photographs, full names, exact locations, or other unnecessary personal details. We do not need your child's saved game to answer general questions.

We use correspondence to respond to the request and resolve support problems. We do not use it for advertising or sell it. Access is limited to people and service providers needed to handle support, or disclosures required by law. We keep it only as long as needed for the request and any applicable legal obligations, then delete it. You can request deletion by contacting us.

8. Removing information and asking questions

There is no player account to close and no Veliqon copy of your local adventure to delete. Deleting the app removes its active local app data. Offloading the app is different and can preserve that data. Backups may retain copies or restore them later; manage those copies separately through Apple's backup controls. Removing the app does not delete original pictures in your Photos library.

A parent or guardian can contact support@veliqon.com to ask what support or beta information Veliqon holds about them or their child, request access or correction, or request deletion. We may need enough information to locate the record and verify the request. We cannot access or delete data held only on your device or exclusively by Apple. Rights and any legally required retention depend on the law that applies to you.

9. Children and policy changes

The app is designed for children to explore with a parent or guardian's involvement. It does not offer public profiles, social posting, messaging, or an account-registration form. Parents should manage optional device features and handle support and beta feedback.

If we change how information is handled, we will update this policy and its effective date. A policy edit alone will not enable a new upload feature or grant permission to collect children's information. Material new practices will require appropriate notice and any legally required consent before they begin.

For questions about this policy, contact Veliqon LLC at support@veliqon.com.
